My name is Shay. I have numerous interests and goals, but not always the time to indulge them. I just try to live my life one day at a time. I started this blog in 2010 as an outlet for my more creative side while in graduate school and perhaps share a little bit of myself with the internet. I feel that my thoughts are too long and rambling to fit comfortably on social media like Facebook, so a blog is a more appropriate for the longer format. I did take a hiatus from the blog in 2013, but decided I liked writing too much to quit it entirely. Now, I’m hoping that maybe my readers will get a little something from my ramblings, even if it’s just commiseration from another every day person. Sometimes it’s nice to see how other people spend their days. Here, you’ll find posts on video games, recipes, books, craft projects, and adventures in self improvement.
The name Cafe Le Shay is a joke from graduate school, where I often threatened to quit and start a coffee/tea shop. I did quit graduate school, but I haven’t started that coffee shop yet. To date, most of my posts are food related. Please check out the Recipe Index if you’re interested in those. Despite this, I wouldn’t consider myself a food blogger. I want to keep the freedom to post about other things as well.
Some things you should know about me to make the most sense of this blog (in no particular order):
- I am a female in her early 30’s. I am married to my wonderful husband, Andrew, and we currently live in Oklahoma.
- I am a Zen Buddhist. This doesn’t come up often, but it does often affect my outlook on things like holidays.
- I believe in real food, that is, food that is as close to its original form as possible. I don’t always follow this in my everyday eating (I love restaurant food a lot), but most of my recipes will not include processed shortcut ingredients.
- I am a total nerd. I play tabletop games with my friends every week, I play video games on the regular, and I love Tolkien. There’s much more, but those are some of the big things.
There might be more, but I’m sure you can pick it up as we go along. Welcome to Cafe Le Shay. Grab a cup of tea and take a seat.
